
Gabriela Carja received her Ph.D. at the Technical University Gheorghe Asachi of Iasi in 1996 in chemical engineering. After that, she was a research fellow at the Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan (1999–2000), and did a postdoctoral stage at the Institute Superior Tecnico of Lisbon, Portugal, in 1997. She works as a professor of physical chemistry in the Department of Chemical Engineering of Technical University Gheorghe Asachi of Iasi, and since 2009 she has headed the Group of Laboratory of Materials Nanoarchitectonics. She was awarded the prize of the Romanian Academy “Gheorghe Spacu” in 2009. She is currently president of the Material Science Commission of the National Scientific Research Council (CNCS) and a member of the National Council for Ethics and University Management (CEMU). She is the author of several books, book chapters, review articles, and more than 100 research papers in SCI(E) Journals. Her research has focused on understanding the behaviour of layered double hydroxides nanostructures and their effects on both environments and human health.
